What is Gift Nifty?

Simply put, gift nifty, formerly known as SGX nifty, is a futures product that is traded on the NSE international market, which is situated in Gift City, Gujarat, India, and is based on the Nifty 50 index of the national stock exchange of India.

Valued at $7.5 billion, all the contracts associated with SGX Nifty currently trade on the NSE IX instead of the SGX. Four financial products are now available through NSE IX: Gift Nifty 50, Gift Nifty Bank, Gift Nifty Financial Services, and Gift Nifty IT derivative contracts.

The International Financial Services Centre Authority (IFSCA) will oversee NSE IX, located in GIFT City SEZ, as the new trading venue for US dollar-denominated Nifty futures contracts, replacing Singapore Exchange.

The trading days for the new GIFT Nifty F&O contracts are 21 hours long, and the gift nifty timing in India is split between two sessions.

Previously, SGX (Singapore Exchange Limited) permitted SGX nifty trading for 21 hours per day from 6:30 AM to 11:30 PM IST. The NSE’s Indian CNX nifty trading hours, which run from 9 AM to 6:10 PM, are in sharp contrast with this. But even during India’s non-trading hours, the price swings of Gift Nifty shares continue, possibly reflecting worldwide trends before and after the Indian markets open.
