New Year Will Bring Revised Expiry Day for Index Derivatives Contracts

Starting this new year, equity index derivatives contracts will have an all-new expiry day. Both the stock exchanges, NSE and BSE, have announced the revised expiry day for the Bank Nifty, Finnifty, Sensex, Bankex, and others. So, let’s find out the full details of the new expiry day of various index derivatives contracts and on which date the new rule will start applying.

January 1, 2025: New Expiry Day for Index Derivatives

Here is the full list of index derivatives and their revised expiry day of the month or week that will be applicable from January 1, 2025:

For NSE, any new or existing contracts trading on or after January 1, 2025 will have to follow a revised expiry day schedule. For BSE, new contracts generated after January 1, 2025 while existing contracts expiring after January 3, 2025 will have to apply the new expiry.
