On March 4, 2025, NSE posted a circular that revealed that the expiry day of all F&O contracts (stock and index derivatives) would be changed from Thursday to Monday. This change will come into effect on April 4, 2025. In order to reduce operational complexities, streamline processes, and align with other exchange expiry, NSE has brought in this change. In this blog, we’ll understand in detail the key changes made in the expiry of F&O contracts and how it can impact your trading strategies.

Applicable Expiry Dates of Different F&O Contracts
The change in Nifty F&O expiry day will take place on April 4, 2025. The expiry day of all the existing contacts will be revised on April 3, 2025.
If there is a trading holiday on the expiry day, say April 14 (Monday), then the expiry day will shift to the previous day, i.e., April 11 (Friday).
Impact on Traders of Revised F&O Expiry Day
The change in the expiry day of NSE F&O contracts will lead to the adjustment of trader’s strategies. This will likely reduce the mid-week volatility and price speculation in the F&O contracts on the expiry day.
The traders might also look to square off their positions on Friday to avoid holding them over the weekend when the market is closed. Additionally, the geopolitical changes on the weekend will impact the underlying prices on market opening on Monday, leading to higher volatility and trading opportunities in F&O.
Conclusion
The change in the expiry day of NSE F&O contracts is big news for all the retail traders. This will lead to changes in trading activities, volatility, volumes, and liquidity of the F&O contracts.
